Position: Travel Counselor - Airport or Downtown
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - approx 4 hours during the day.
This is a volunteer position

Position Objectives:

Act as a sales and customer service representative and Spokane region concierge to all individuals visiting a Visitor Center requesting information. Must have lived in Spokane for at least two years to be considered.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Staff the Visitor Information Kiosk located at the Spokane International Airport as needed.

  • Greet visitors to the Kiosk and create a dialogue to ascertain where they are going and how to best provide assistance and options. This contact may influence their stay and spending in the Spokane Region and Washington State.

  • Assist visitors with routing information and planning itineraries; provide options and answer questions pertaining to the area and regional attractions; be familiar with available literature and distribute it to visitors. Keep up to date on tourist attractions and resources. Engage in conversations that will help uncover visitors’ interests and help them connect to the region’s assets.

  • Assist visitors in finding appropriate lodging, transportation, dining, attractions, etc. and booking those resources onsite when possible. This work may include researching information by using Web or other tools.

  • Track information as required for reporting the number of visitors assisted, Visit Spokane member referrals, visitor interests, etc.

  • Keep information racks properly stocked and neatly maintained.


    Academic:  High school diploma, some college preferred.

    Personal Characteristics:   Must be people-oriented and able to effectively communicate.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have experience and skills in general office computer equipment/programs  Have knowledge of Spokane and the surrounding region.           

    Physical requirements.  Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and hearing and speech to effectively communicate in person or over the phone. Professional dress combined with Visit Spokane Logo wear required.

    Airport volunteers - Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Security Clearance – Must have a valid driver’s license from the state you reside in at time of hire with a clean driving record and must keep during course of employment. In order to work at the airport location, person will need to pass a background check which includes fingerprinting.
